Alm honored with dedication

ASBSD Board of Director member Duane Alm received an exceptional and well-deserved honor last month from the Aberdeen School District when the addition placed on the C.C. Lee Elementary School was named in his honor.

Alm, now in his 13th year on the Aberdeen School Board, was the principal at C.C. Lee for 17 years before his service on the board. He received the honor following a recommendation from a district committee and approval by board members – minus Alm who humbly excused himself from the vote.

“I am really honored by it (the dedication),” Alm said. “It means a lot to be recognized this way.”

The dedication ceremony was held on Friday, August 30 at C.C. Lee with a capacity crowd of students, staff and community members in attendance.

ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany was in attendance of the ceremony and noted the reverence shown by those in attendance for Alm’s commitment to Aberdeen’s schools.

“Everyone showed a great deal of gratitude toward Duane for his devotion to the kids and community of Aberdeen,” Pogany said. “He’s a great example of a dedicated servant to K-12 education.”

Pogany’s sentiment was by Aberdeen Superintendent Gary Harms.

“Few people I’ve know in my career are as dedicated to students’ academic well-being as Duane Alm,” Harms said. “It is entirely appropriate and well-deserved that his passion for what is best for students and teachers be recognized.”
