A bill providing a more fluid process for former teachers to return to the profession reached the halfway point in the legislative process.
Rep. Bob Glanzer said the bill would allow the state Board of Education to “submit rules to the (legislature’s) rules review committee to initiate an inactive certificate” for former teachers to begin the process to return to the classroom.
An individual who voluntarily left the profession for a period of time and did not renew their certificate would be eligible to renew through a fee and ensuring they meet the needed renewal credit requirements through HB 1032.
Rep. Glanzer called it a “great bill” as it allows individuals to “take a leave and then get back into the system” so long as they meet the established criteria.
