Veteran and new school board presidents, as well as vice presidents, should join ASBSD Leadership Development Director Dr. Randall Royer at one of ASBSD’s upcoming School Board President Workshops.
The workshops will assist board presidents and vice presidents in understanding their role and responsibility in planning and facilitating regular and special school board meetings.
“From assembling an agenda to adjourning the meeting and beyond, this workshop will help board chairs/presidents take control of the meetings and make them effective, efficient, and legal,” Royer said.
Attending board presidents and vice presidents will also learn how to control “Public to Be Heard” or “Open Forum” sections of meetings, which were recently amended in law by House Bill 1172 requiring school boards to provide public comment at a meeting with the time provided limited at the chair’s discretion.
Other topics will include handling ‘rogue’ Board members and complaints from parents or patrons. Proper use of Parliamentary Procedure will also be discussed. Time for questions, comments, and discussion will be included as well.
Attending board members earn 40 ALL points for their board.
Dates, times and locations of the workshops include:
- Wednesday, July 25 in Rapid City at the Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center with check-in from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and workshop from 12 to 3:30 p.m.
