New member appointed to ASBSD Board

Montrose School Board Member Alan Van Ruler has been appointed to a seat on the Associated School Boards of South Dakota Board of Directors by ASBSD President Eric Stroeder.

Van Ruler will represent ASBSD’s Southeastern Region, 265 and under enrollment category.

“We’re thrilled to have Alan join our team,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said. “He is well versed in education issues at the state and local level and is dedicated to the students, teachers and community of the Montrose School District.”

Van Ruler is currently serving his seventh year on his local school board, which has included three years as the district’s representative on the Corn Belt Cooperative Board of Directors. He has served as his local board’s ASBSD Legislative Action Network representative and Delegate for ASBSD Delegate Assembly.

“The reason why I ran for a school board position is the same reason why I would like to on the ASBSD Board of Directors, involvement in my children’s education” Van Ruler said, adding that his role on the board is to provide the tools for teachers to perform their best and serve the community a fiscally responsible manner.

The 18-member ASBSD Board of Directors is made up of local school board members elected from four geographic regions (Central, Northeast, Southeast and Western) and five enrollment size categories (265 and under, 266-699, 700-1,399, 1,400-9,999 and 10,000 and above).
