Gov. proclaims May 8-12 Teacher Appreciation Week

South Dakota will celebrate a truly great group this week: our state’s teachers.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard recently proclaimed May 8-12 as Teacher Appreciation Week in South Dakota.

“Our state’s teachers deserve celebration for all the wonderful work they do for the students, schools and communities of South Dakota,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said.

“ASBSD and the more than 800 school board members across South Dakota join together to enthusiastically say ‘Thank you’ to all of our teachers for the devoted work they do.”

The South Dakota Department of Education will be using the hashtag #ThankATeacher on social media throughout the week and the public is invited to share a message of thanks for the teachers impacting students across the state and the country.

“We all have an experience with a favorite teacher – someone who made a difference in our lives,” Secretary of Education Dr. Melody Schopp said in a statement.

“Whether you are a student, a parent, a grandparent, or an aunt or uncle, I encourage you to reach out to a teacher this week and thank them for their commitment to the teaching profession and the children of South Dakota.”
