Online education resource bill on to House

A bill described by Sen. Tim Rave as a “forward looking” pilot found favor in the Senate on crossover day.

Senators unanimously passed Senate Bill 176, which would appropriate funds for the development of online resources and a rubric of textbook analysis for use in school districts. The bill includes $1 placeholder funding.

Sen. Rave said many school districts are already utilizing online resources and the standard textbook is becoming a thing of the past. He noted SB 176 is a “great concept to at least start” the conversation of funding digital resources for use in schools.

TIE would likely help with the design of the resources for the program, which is optional for school districts to participate in.

ASBSD supports the bill.
