October’s edition of the SafeSchools’ School Safety Newsletter is available to review.
Give the latest edition of the School Safety Matters newsletter a read here.
This month’s newsletter shares information on a new safety app, an upcoming safety webinar that will help you develop and expand your district’s safety message and figures on suicide rates among adolescents.
SafeSchools offers South Dakota school districts a one hour suicide awareness and prevention training course, which meets the state’s training requirement for the initial certificate and renewal certificate of a teacher, administrator or other educational professional.
The Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention training requirement comes from the passage of 2016’s Senate Bill 129, which establishes certain suicide awareness and prevention training requirements for certain school employees.
Along with the suicide awareness and prevention training, ASBSD and SafeSchools have partnered to bring all member districts the opportunity to automate their staff training and policy administration through a comprehensive online library of courses covering important school safety and compliance topics.

ASBSD members can inquire about the suicide awareness and prevention training, read the newsletter and get started with SafeSchools Training by contacting Matt Flett at firstname.lastname@example.org or 605-773-2515.
