Delegate Assembly is a key event in establishing the legislative direction of ASBSD and filling available seats on the Board of Directors.
Delegate Appointment
ASBSD’s Delegate Assembly is the time and place to voice your district’s legislative agenda.
It is essential for member districts to appoint a delegate and have them attend the assembly to vote on the resolutions and standing positions.
At Delegate Assembly ASBSD’s resolutions and standing positions, which dictate the legislative direction of the association, are passed by the members being represented.
As member districts, you have the opportunity every year to vote on the resolutions and standing positions each year at Delegate Assembly. This year’s Delegate Assembly is set for Friday, Nov. 22.
At your next school board meeting we ask that you appoint a delegate to attend assembly. To do so, complete the certification form and return your appointment information by email to Katie@asbsd.org, via fax 605-773-2501 or mail to 306 E Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501.
Deadline for appointment submission is Friday, Oct. 18.
If you have questions, please contact Tyler via email or at 605-773-8382 or 605-881-3791.
Resolution and Standing Position submission
ASBSD’s resolutions and standing positions dictate the legislative direction of the association.
They are an extremely valuable reference for our legislative advocating efforts and, as we’ve seen in past legislative sessions, are the guides for ASBSD to follow when controversial legislative issues, which our member schools do not hold a consensus opinion on, are introduced.
Before Delegate Assembly, your district also has the opportunity to submit a resolution for consideration at assembly by member districts.
To do so, please read submission instructions (click link to open) and submit this form (click link to open) by email to Katie@asbsd.org, via fax 605-773-2501 or mail to 306 E Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501.
Submissions must be received on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in order to provide delegates with adequate time to review proposed amendments and new submissions with their board.

Board of Director Elections
Delegate Assembly offers board members the opportunity to declare their intention to seek a seat representing the region and enrollment category their district is in on the ASBSD Board of Directors.
Representation on the Board of Directors is broken up by four regions (Central, Northeast, Southeast and Western) and enrollment categories (Over 10,000, 1,400-9,999, 700-1,399, 266-699 and 265 and under). To see which enrollment category and region your district is in, click here.
This year there are six seats available on the Board of Directors (year of next election):
- Central Region – 1,4000-9,999 (2017)
- Central Region – 266-699 (2014)
- Southeast Region – 700-1,399 (2017)
- Western Region – 1,400-9,999 (2014)
- Western Region – 700-1,3999 (2015)
- Western Region – 265 and under (2017)
Board of Director terms are four-years in length and terms begin in February of next year. Please note three seats will be up for election prior to 2017. Those seats were vacated or filled by appointment and ASBSD by-laws require they be up for election to complete the term.
In order to serve on the Board of Directors an individual must be a member of their local board.
If you have questions about director elections and the Board of Directors, please contact ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany via email or at 605-773-2500.
