Twelve districts streamlining school policy in 2017

Twelve South Dakota school districts are streamlining the school board policy process in 2017

By signing up for ASBSD’s Online Policy Services, Alcester-Hudson, Bennett County, Centerville, Edmunds Central, Elkton, Howard, Iroquois, Kimball, Leola, McIntosh, Miller and Tripp-Delmont, are in the process of electronically organizing their policy book.

“A year ago we decided we needed to completely review and revamp our school policy manual,” Kimball Superintendent Jeff Rieckman said.

Edmunds Central Superintendent Karen Fox called the policy service “one of the most useful tools we have ever used to conduct a comprehensive review of board policies.”

Districts on board with the Online Policy Service have the opportunity to edit current and add new policies in real time and can review those policies at any time through their district’s policy page.

“The format has allowed the board a plan determining the areas of most need and then provided the online guidance necessary to clean up, add and delete policies,” Fox said.

  • 251 to 500 — $600
  • 501 to 750 — $900
  • 751 to 1,000 — $1,200
  • 1,001 to 1,750 — $1,500
  • 1,751 to 2,500 — $1,800
  • 2,501 to 5,000 — $2,400

  • Over 25,000 — $4,300

New members receive ten hours of in-depth analysis and review of their current and future policies upon signing up.

“We have great discussion on each of the policies and make any changes we feel are necessary for our district,” Rieckman said.

In addition to instant access and editing capabilities, ASBSD’s Online Policy Service provides members the opportunity to search the policies of their fellow districts utilizing the online policy service and
