Four-day board referral option falls

Two bills reach Gov’s desk

Two House bills being tracked by ASBSD have reached Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s desk for review and signature.   Senators passed House Bill 1021, which revises certain provisions regarding the education provided for children in certain residential treatment centers, on a 34-0 vote on Monday (2/6).   HB 1021 would implement a provision for the South Dakota Department

House passes rep area election change notification bill

A bill adjusting the notification procedures of boundary changes to local representation areas passed its legislative chamber of origin.   Members of the House and Local Government committee unanimously passed HB 1036, which requires a local election official to notify their county auditor of any external boundary changes prior to local election.   HB 1036

There will be plenty of fresh faces in room 413 of the Capitol Building when the House Education committee convenes for its meeting of the 2017 legislative session.   Only five of the 15 committee members served on House Ed. last year, with six of the 10 new committee members being freshmen legislators, as well.

ASBSD enrollment categories updated by Board of Directors

ASBSD’s governance structure received an update as the ASBSD Board of Directors voted in favor of bringing the Association’s enrollment categories up-to-date based on enrollment figures from the 2015-16 school year.   The updated enrollment categories take effect immediately, as the 2017 ASBSD Board of Directors election cycle is set to begin soon.
