Current medical cannabis rules remain nearly the same after interim comm. study

Few changes were made to the current medical cannabis rules following the conclusion the state’s marijuana interim study, which included a review of the medical cannabis laws.

No changes were made during the study to the current laws and policies in place for schools as it relates to the administration of medical cannabis to students and ASBSD’s current sample policies on medical cannabis administration are applicable.

After much discussion around the portion of the proposed bill that could have changed the policy adoption process for local school boards, Rep. Caleb Finck suggested the group “move forward without the school piece” and maintain the law and policy as it currently states.

The only change made by interim committee affecting schools in the proposed bills that will be introduced during the 2022 legislative session is the section of Amendment A providing a portion of revenue collected from the excise tax on the sale of marijuana to schools, which was removed.

“We need to find out where the costs of marijuana are going to be before we start splitting (revenue),” Rep. Hugh Bartels said of the proposed change to the distribution of revenue.

ASBSD will continue to monitor the proposed changes during the 2022 legislative session and for updates, check the ASBSD blog.
