Best practices resource on school safety available to ASBSD members

ASBSD members can review a new resource on best practices on safety and security in schools.

Aside from installing expensive electronic security systems and transforming school buildings into fortresses, does your school district have a sound and updated plan to prevent, prepare for, and respond to violent acts and other threats to the safety and security of students and staff?

Because student security is paramount, the School Leaders Risk Management Association (SLRMA), which ASBSD has partnered with to provide their resources to members for free, has pored through the most current and effective resources and created a new resource for members: Protecting Students: Safety and Security in Schools Checklist and Best Practices.

This comprehensive checklist is designed to inform school districts on the key aspects of identifying and handling emergency and security threat situations.

ASBSD’s partnership with the SLRMA provides our member districts FREE access to this valuable checklist and many others that are focused on school board and district.

SLRMA, a not-for-profit organization that collects, analyzes and disseminates federal school board legal liability risk management information, also posts additional information, including material on preventing environmental health hazards in schools and financial fraud prevention tips, among other topics, on their website: http://www.slrma.org/.

Login access for the SLRMA website has been previously provided to your district’s administration and any questions about accessing the website or about the service can be directed to Director of Communications Tyler Pickner at 605-773-8382 or tpickner@asbsd.org.
