Ten districts taking advantage of ASBSD’s online policy options

Almost a year after its launch, the ASBSD online policy services community continues to grow.

Ten school districts from across South Dakota have signed up for the service that streamlines the school board policy process.

“A year ago we decided we needed to completely review and revamp our school policy manual,” Kimball Superintendent Jeff Rieckman said.

By signing up for ASBSD’s Online Policy Services, Kimball, along with Alcester-Hudson, Bennett County, Centerville, Edmunds Central, Elkton, Iroquois, Leola, Miller and Tripp-Delmont, have electronically organized their policy book by editing current and adding new policies in real time.

Edmunds Central Superintendent Karen Fox referred to ASBSD’s Online Policy Service as “one of the most useful tools we have ever used to conduct a comprehensive review of board policies.”

“The format has allowed the board a plan determining the areas of most need and then provided the online guidance necessary to clean up, add and delete policies,” Fox said.

In addition to instant access and editing capabilities, ASBSD’s Online Policy Service provides members the opportunity to search the policies of fellow districts utilizing the online policy service and receive ten hours of in-depth analysis and review of their current and future policies upon signing up.

“Each month ASBSD selects around six policies for us to consider updating. We have great discussion on each of the policies and make any changes we feel are necessary for our district,” Rieckman said.

“We are going to have a completely updated and current policy manual for the administration, board, staff and parents to utilize.”
