Every member of the House Education committee will return to their post.
The 15-member House Education committee, which will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:45 a.m., brings every member back for the 2020 legislative session with Rep. Lana Greenfield serving as committee chair for her second year.
Let’s get to know the committee members:
Rep. Lana Greenfield (District 2) begins her sixth year in the legislature. A business owner and former teacher from Doland, this is the second year Rep. Greenfield has served on the education committee and as its Chairwoman. She sat on the 2018 legislative interim committee that studied the Extraordinary Cost Fund. Rep. Greenfield will also serve on the Local Government committee.
Rep. Bob Glanzer (District 22) enters the final year of his second term of service in the legislature. Rep. Glanzer – with a background in education having taught business education classes at Wessington Springs High School – continues as the committee’s Vice Chair. He also served on House Ed. in 2017 and 2018. Rep. Glanzer will also sit on the Ag and Natural Resources committee.
Rep. Thomas Brunner (District 29) continues his third term in the House and 14th year in the legislature overall. This year marks the ninth year of service on the House Education committee for Rep. Bruner, which previously included two years as Chair. He will also serve as Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources committee.
Rep. Fred Deutsch (District 4) sees 2020 mark his fourth year in the legislature, each of which he has sat on the House Education committee. The former Watertown School Board Member, has three sessions’ experience on House Ed. And also served on the 2019 interim committee studying Special Education. Rep. Deutsch will also serve on the Health & Human Services committee and Military and Veteran Affairs committee.
Rep. Erin Healy (District 14) returns to the legislature and the House Education committee for her second year. A Data Analyst from Sioux Falls, Rep. Healy continues to serve as the House as Minority Whip. She will also serve on the Health & Human Services committee.
Rep. Timothy Johns (District 31) finishes his final term in the House, each of which has seen him sit on the House Education committee, in 2020. An attorney from Lawrence County, Rep. Johns served as the Education committee’s chair in 2017 and 2018 and as Vice Chair in 2015 and 2016. Additionally, he will serve as Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee.
Rep. Isaac Latterell (District 6) sits on the House Education committee for the second time in his legislative tenure, which is in its final year of his fourth term. A technology consultant from Tea, Rep. Latterell served as a House Majority Whip in 2017 and 2018. He will also be a member of the GOAC and Judiciary committees.
Rep. Sam Marty (District 28B) maintains his seat with the House Education committee, which marks his second year of service and sixth year serving in the legislature overall. Rep. Marty will also serve on the Ag. & Natural Resources committee and Military and Veteran Affairs committee.
Rep. Jess Olson (District 34) resumes her first term in the legislature in 2020. A nonprofit executive from Rapid City, Rep. Olson begins her sophomore effort on the House Education committee. She will also serve on the Taxation committee.
Rep. Tony Randolph (District 35) makes the trip from Pennington County to Pierre for his second year in the legislature. Rep. Randolph is an electrical contractor and is one of two legislators from Rapid City sitting on the House Education committee. He will also sit on the Taxation committee and Military and Veterans Affairs committee.
Rep. Nancy Rasmussen (District 17) finishes her fourth term in the House 2020. Rep. Rasmussen, a retiree from Hurley, will sit on House Ed. for the second time in her legislative career and served as Chair of the 2019 interim committee studying Special Education. She will also be a member of the Judiciary committee this year.
Rep. Rebecca Reimer (District 26B) concludes her first term in the legislature with a return to the House Education committee. Rep. Reimer is a former school board member in the Chamberlain School District. She will also serve on the House Local Government committee and Judiciary committee.
Rep. Ray Ring (District 17) serves on the House Education committee for the sixth consecutive year. A retired Economist and Professor at USD, Rep. Ring also served on the 2019 interim committee studying Special Education. He will sit on the taxation committee in 2020, as well.
Rep. Manny Steele (District 12) opens the second year of his return term to the legislature, which will give him 10 total years of service in Pierre. Rep. Steele served as a Majority Whip in the House in 2009 and 2010. A retiree from Sioux Falls, he will serve on the Transportation committee, as well.
Rep. Marli Wiese (District 8) sets out on her fourth year in the legislature in 2020. Hailing from Madison, Rep. Wiese will serve her third year as a member of the House Education committee. She will also serve as Vice Chair of the Health & Human Services committee.
