State health officials have a developed a comprehensive guide for school districts in search of support for dealing with student vaping.
The South Dakota Department of Health has compiled a summary of resources and technical assistance for schools on the topic of vaping. The summary also provides a link to Regional Tobacco Prevention Coordinators who can provide technical assistance at the local level.
Download the DOH resource here.
“School district leaders in need of assistance on the matter of student vaping should utilize this reference from the Department of Health,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said.
“It’s an informative document that will assist schools in a variety of problem areas.”
In addition to the South Dakota Tobacco Control Program’s tobacco free model policy, ASBSD offers districts a free sample policy through our Policy Services. School districts can access sample policy AEA: Tobacco-Free Schools, at www.policy.asbsd.org.
If you are not able to access the ASBSD Policy Services website, please contact your district’s administration or ASBSD Policy Services Associate Kay Thompson-Tieszen at kay@asbsd.org.
If schools have questions about the resource, they should contact DOH Chronic Disease Director Kiley Hump via email at kiley.hump@state.sd.us or by phone at 605-773-5610.
