With legislative session here for the next nine weeks, ASBSD Billtracker, which provides you with a list of each piece of legislation the Association is tracking during session, is filling up and will be regularly updated.

After the first week of 97th Legislative Session, the ASBSD Billtracker has 15 bills listed with more than half labeled with the support or oppose position. Here’s a breakdown of those bills thus far with the blue text being links to additional webpages with more information:
- House Bill 1005: Requires a public school to accommodate any student request for a bathroom used exclusively by members of the same sex. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1005 has been assigned to the House State Affairs committee, but does not have a hearing scheduled, yet;
- House Bill 1006: Changes process of participation in girls’ sports. ASBSD opposes the bill, which is similar to Senate Bill 46, listed below. HB 1006 has not been assigned to a committee at this time;
- House Bill 1012: Dictates specific curriculum and instruction. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1012, which reference Critical Race Theory in the title, but does not reference it in the body of the bill, is assigned to the House Education committee, but does not have a hearing date at this time;
- House Bill 1015: Requires a moment of silence at the start of the day. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1015 currently is awaiting a hearing in the House Education committee;
- House Bill 1064: Uses the fall enrollments of 2020 or 2021, depending which is larger, to calculate state aid for 2022-23 school year. ASBSD supports the bill, awaits a hearing in the House Education committee;
- Senate Bill 46: Changes process of participation in girls’ sports. ASBSD opposes the bill, which was passed on an 8-1 vote by the Senate State Affairs committee on Friday (1/14). You can read about the bill’s committee hearing here. SB 46 now moves to the Senate floor for review and vote, potentially on Wednesday (1/19);
- Senate Bill 59: Provides the 6 percent increase in state aid and special education and revises the property tax levies for school districts. ASBSD supports the bill, which will be heard on Tuesday (1/18) in the Senate Education committee.
- Senate Bill 71: Increases the private school scholarship fund total to $3.5 million. ASBSD opposes the bill. SB 71 will have a hearing in the Senate Education committee on Tuesday (1/18).
