A resolution to study a new educational path proceeded in the legislative process.

 

House Education members and the House Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 6001, which proposes the study of a potential optional educational path.

 

ASBSD is monitoring HCR 6001, which has been assigned to the Senate Education Committee.

 

The resolution “comes to us from the Juvenile Justice summer study,” Rep. Fred Deutsch testified during its House Education hearing, adding HCR 6001 “explores new educational options” to keep students engaged throughout high school.

 

“We know there are some of our children that need another mechanism,” Rep. Deutsch said. “this would represent a third option.”

 

HCR 6001 would request the legislature’s Executive Board to establish an interim study “to explore new alternatives to keep individuals 16 years or older engaged in learning opportunities that lead to high school completion” and the task force, whose composition has not been determined, to report their findings and recommendations to the legislature by February of next year.
