ALL award earning boards adding up in 2019-20

Nearly halfway through this recent ALL year, 54 school boards have earned an award in ASBSD’s board recognition program.

In the fourth year of ASBSD’s board recognition program: ALL, which stands for Act, Learn, Lead, the 52 school boards having already earned a Gold, Silver or Bronze award equals the total number of boards that received an award in 2018-19.

ALL recognizes board members’ participation in outside activities, board development and training, and demonstrated leadership at a variety of levels, with points earned by participating in ASBSD activities, training opportunities and demonstrating leadership at the local, state and national level throughout the fiscal year (July 1-June 30), with GAVEL Training counting for a total of three years.

Thus far 15 boards have earned a Gold Level (minimum 500 points) award, 16 have reached the Silver Level (minimum 350 points) and 23 are Bronze Level (minimum 250 points) honorees. Since September’s ALL update, the number of award earning boards has increased by 21.

2019-20 ALL Award Earners:

Gold member school boards: Deubrook Area, Madison Central, Lyman, Howard, Yankton, Colome Consolidated, Montrose, McLaughlin, Eagle Butte, Hill City, Todd County, Sioux Falls, Deuel, Meade and Newell.

Silver level school boards: Hot Springs, Rapid City, Sisseton, White River, Oldham-Ramona, Dell Rapids, Aberdeen, Marion, Custer, Herreid, Wilmot, Platte-Geddes, Bon Homme, Chamberlain, Scotland and Kimball.

Bronze earning school boards include: Oglala Lakota County, Menno, Flandreau, Lead-Deadwood, Mobridge-Pollock, Gregory, Wagner, Arlington, Faulkton Area, Haakon, Freeman, Waverly, Douglas, Sioux Valley, Bison, Willow Lake, Lake Preston, Garretson, McIntosh, Harrisburg, Lemmon, Clark and Florence.

In addition to the 54 school boards having earned an award, 13 are within 50 or fewer points of an ALL award with another nine within 100 points.

All school boards have a plethora of opportunities to earn ALL points for their board as each can appoint one or more board members as their LAN representative(s) to earn 25 points per appointee and have their board members participate in one or more of the four, free LAN trainings in January and February to receive 20 points for each attendee.

Each board member attending an upcoming Collective Bargaining Seminar in January or a Negotiated Agreement Workshop in March will earn 30 points for their board and those attending ASBSD’s Legislative Day on February 18 in Pierre will earn 30 ALL points, as well.

There are seven School Law Webinars – both live and recorded – where school board members registering can earn 20 ALL points for the board and school boards completing a GAVEL training can earn 40 points for each training attendee!

And, board members will want to keep a close eye on ASBSD’s communications as we’ll have a new training opportunity for them to earn ALL points in the coming months!
