2016 School Board Recognition Week set for February

South Dakota School Board Recognition Week is the time to recognize the men and women who dedicated their time and energy to serving on your locally elected school board.

“The week offer’s your district an opportunity to publicly thank the men and women who serve on your local board of education,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said. “We hope it will be a time your students, staff and community share their appreciation for the leadership provided by board members.”

This year, South Dakota School Board Recognition Week is set for February 15-19, which will coincide with ASBSD Legislative Day. The change gives ASBSD the chance to invite school board members to the Capitol Building to be honored by our legislators alongside our School Board Member of the Year and School Board Award of Excellence recipient.

ASBSD Legislative Day is set for Tuesday, February 16 and will feature a lunch with legislators, which will offer board members and administrators the chance to visit with their local legislators, and a trip to the Capitol building where all board members will be recognized for their service in both the House and Senate chambers. More information will follow on the event; we’d be thrilled to have a large contingent of board members join us.

South Dakota School Board Recognition Week will take place a week after some districts are scheduled to hold their monthly meeting, but we encourage you to recognize the men and women who dedicated their time and energy to serving on your locally elected school board at your February board meeting.

ASBSD has provided districts a certificate recognizing each individual school board collectively for South Dakota School Board Recognition Week. Additional documents to help you celebrate the week can be downloaded from our Publications and Forms page.
