February03: COI criminal penalty increase bill passed

An upgrade to criminal charges that can be filed for a conflict of interest crime got closer to implementation on Thursday (2/2). Senators unanimously passed a slightly amended addition of Senate Bill 27, which which prohibits public officials from misusing their position for personal gain, provides a penalty therefor and implements a grievance process

February02: Senate sends tech institute board bill to House

The creation of the governing board for postsecondary technical institutes came further to fruition after getting through its first legislative chamber. On Tuesday (1/31), Senators passed Senate Bill 65, which establishes the South Dakota Board of Technical Education and revises certain provisions for CTE and tech institutes, on a 33-0 vote. SB 65

February02: Treatment center ed. funding one step from Gov’s desk

Just one more legislative hurdle remains for a plan to adjust the funding method for education and other services for students placed in behavioral treatment centers. Senate Education committee members unanimously passed House Bill 1021, which revises certain provisions regarding the education provided for children in certain residential treatment centers, at Thursday’s meeting (2/2).
