Is Your School District Ready for the 2020 Fair Labor Standards Regulations?

ASBSD’s partnership with the School Leaders Risk Management Association (SLRMA) provides FREE access to the latest resource on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

FLSA directs the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to promulgate regulations to implement the intentions of the FLSA. In September of 2018, the DOL issued new FLSA regulations that became effective January 1, 2020.

FSLA has a broad impact on employers, including School Districts. Unless employees are subject to an exemption, employees must receive pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek at a rate of pay not less than one and one-half their regular rate of pay.

Failure to properly comply with the FSLA and its regulations can result in lawsuits, regulatory hearings, orders for back pay, and even possible penalties. Is your District handling FSLA the correct way?

Take a moment to click here and download this newest checklist and reap the benefits that this SLRMA resource adds to your school district’s risk management plan.

SLRMA, a not-for-profit organization that collects, analyzes and disseminates federal school board legal liability risk management information, also posts additional information, including material on due process and students suspension and school safety, among other topics, on their website: http://www.slrma.org/.

Login access for the SLRMA website has been previously provided to your district’s administration and any questions about accessing the website or about the service can be directed to Director of Communications Tyler Pickner at 605-773-8382 or tpickner@asbsd.org.
