Reps repeal MBC appraisal requirement
Representatives removed a requirement related to minor boundary changes recently.
House Education committee members voted 14-0 and the full House voted 67-1 to pass House Bill 1255, which removes the requirement for a mandatory appraisal in minor boundary changes.
HB 1255 repeals “the requirement that an appraisal be completed as a condition of the proposed land exchange may be waived upon the adoption of a resolution by both boards.”
“Why do we have to pay for an appraisal because it’s not going to affect our (school boards’) decision,” Rep. Herman Otten, the bill’s prime sponsor, questioned.
ASBSD supports the bill with Executive Director Wade Pogany noting the bill “saves schools money” because they don’t “have to pay extra costs for the appraisal.”
HB 1255 now heads to the Senate Education committee for review and vote on Tuesday, March 3.
