Train your staff with SafeSchools

For a slightly more than a year, ASBSD and SafeSchools have partnered to bring each of our member districts access to a market-leading training system to meet your staff’s training needs.

“The training courses are all school-focused,” ASBSD CFO and ASBPT Director Matt Flett said. “Each piece of content is relevant and applicable to the school environment.”

Members of the  Workers’ Compensation fund and Associated School Boards Property/Liability fund have access to the training system at no cost and all other ASBSD members receive the program at a 50 percent savings.

SafeSchools training system provides state and national required training courses in driver training requirements, school meals initiative, the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX and more.

In addition, SafeSchools offers South Dakota school districts a one hour suicide awareness and prevention training course, which meets the state’s training requirement for the initial certificate and renewal certificate of a teacher, administrator or other educational professional.

The Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention training requirement comes from the passage of 2016’s Senate Bill 129, which establishes certain suicide awareness and prevention training requirements for certain school employees.

SafeSchools’ system also includes a comprehensive library of courses covering important school safety and compliance topics, such as Active Shooter, Bloodborne Pathogens, Bullying Prevention, Child Abuse Identification, Hazing Prevention, Visual Weapons Screening and more.

“The SafeSchools Training System offers school boards and district administrators the opportunity to automate their staff training,” Flett said.

“This is the ideal training system for districts striving to mitigate risk and enhance school safety.”

South Dakota SafeSchools Regional Manager John-Michael Larry will be contacting ASBSD members in the near future to further discuss SafeSchools with them. If your district wants to get started with the system right away, contact John-Michael at jlarry@safeschools.com.
