Senate comm. sends safety plan discussion through

One step remains in the legislative process for a bill aiming to expand the executive session topics list to include school safety plans.

On an 8-0 vote, Senate State Affairs committee members passed House Bill 1048, which permits a school board to discuss and deliberate school safety plans, and other provisions, in executive session.

The unanimous vote in the committee marked the third time the bill faced a vote and didn’t receive one “nay.”

ASBSD supports the bill and Executive Director Wade Pogany noted during his committee testimony it permits school boards to hold discussions to “protect all children” in executive session with “very detailed, very clear instruction” about what can be covered.

There was no opponent testimony against the bill, which heads to the Senate floor for review.
