Legislative session enters its third week and ASBSD Billtracker, which provides you with a list of each piece of legislation the Association is tracking during session, continues to be filled with activity.

Following the second week of the 2022 legislative session, ASBSD Billtracker has added nine more bills from last week to bring the total tracked to 24.. Here’s a breakdown of those bills thus far with the blue text being links to additional webpages with more information:
- House Bill 1005: Requires a public school to accommodate any student request for a bathroom used exclusively by members of the same sex. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1005 has been assigned to the House State Affairs committee and still awaits a hearing;
- House Bill 1006: Changes process of participation in girls’ sports. ASBSD opposes the bill, which is similar to Senate Bill 46. HB 1006 has yet to be assigned to a committee;
- House Bill 1012: Dictates specific curriculum and instruction. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1012, which references Critical Race Theory in the title, but does not reference it in the body of the bill, is assigned to the House Education committee, but hasn’t had a hearing;
- House Bill 1015: Requires a moment of silence at the start of the day. ASBSD opposes the bill, which was killed by the House Education committee. Read about the bill hearing here;
- House Bill 1039: Provides for the assessment of certain agricultural land as noncropland. ASBSD opposes the bill, which was passed by the House Ag comm. Read about the bill hearing here;
- House Bill 1064: Uses the fall enrollments of 2020 or 2021, depending which is larger, to calculate state aid for 2022-23 school year. ASBSD supports the bill as it awaits its hearing in the House Education committee;
- House Bill 1080: Extends the average teacher compensation targets until the 2023-24 school year. ASBSD is monitoring the bill, which will have a hearing in the House Education committee on Monday (1/24);
- House Bill 1111: Permits referral of a school board resolution by voters related to health and safety of students and staff. ASBSD opposes the bill. HB 1111 has been assigned to the House Local Government committee;
- Senate Bill 46: Changes process of participation in girls’ sports. ASBSD opposes the bill. SB 46 passed the Senate and has been assigned to the House State Affairs. Read about its debate on the Senate floor here;
- Senate Bill 59: Provides the 6 percent increase in state aid and special education and revises the property tax levies for school districts. ASBSD supports the bill, which was referred to the Joint Appropriations committee by the Senate Education committee. Read about its hearing here;
- Senate Bill 71: Increases the private school scholarship fund total to $3.5 million. ASBSD opposes the bill. SB 71 passed Senate Education and the Senate and is assigned the House Education. Read about its movement through the Senate here;
- Senate Bill 72: Establishes the crime of hazing and provides a penalty therefor. ASBSD is monitoring the bill, which will have a hearing in Senate Judiciary on Tuesday (1/25);
- Senate Bill 95: Changes the timeline for the Teacher Compensation Review Board to meet from every 3 years to every 2 years. SB 95, which ASBSD supports, has been assigned to the Senate Education.
