South Dakota School Board Recognition Week is the time to recognize the men and women who dedicated their time and energy to serving on your locally elected school board.
“School Board Recognition Week presents your district an opportunity to publicly thank the men and women who serve on your local board of education,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said.
“We hope it’s a time your students, staff and community can share their appreciation for the leadership provided by board members.”
South Dakota School Board Recognition Week is set for February 19-23, which will take place a week after some districts are scheduled to hold their monthly meeting, but we encourage your district to recognize the men and women who tirelessly serve the students, staff and community at your February school board meeting.
Later this month (January), ASBSD will provide districts a certificate recognizing each individual school board collectively for South Dakota School Board Recognition Week. We will also provide reminders prior to your February school board meeting.
Additional documents to help you celebrate the week can be downloaded from our Publications and Forms page under the “Event Documents” header.
South Dakota School Board Recognition Week will also coincide with ASBSD Legislative Day and we invite school board members and administrators to the Capitol Building to be honored by our legislators alongside our School Board Member of the Year.
ASBSD Legislative Day is set for Tuesday, February 20 and will feature a lunch and a trip to the Capitol building, where all board members will be recognized by the House and Senate members.

Thank you for your support in making South Dakota School Board Recognition Week a success.
