SASD, ASBSD discuss funding proposal with Gov’s Chief of Staff

School Administrators of South Dakota Executive Director Rob Monson and ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany recently sat down with Gov. Daugaard’s Chief of Staff Tony Venhuizen to discuss the proposed half cent increase to the state’s sales tax, the new funding formula and the accompanying education funding pieces of the plan.

“We see a critical need to put more money into our teaching workforce,” Venhuizen said. “This is about asking the tax payers for a little more money to commit it to teachers.”

In addition to discussing the proposed sales tax increase, the trio shared information on property tax relief, outlined the plan for legislation, discussed adjustments to other revenue and capital outlay and examined accountability measures for schools to follow related to the increase in revenue.
