A streamlined process for unanimous voting during a teleconference is headed to the Governor’s desk.

 

House Bill 1127, which revises certain provisions regarding official meetings conducted by teleconference, passed the Senate Local Government committee on a 6-1 vote and the full Senate on a 33-0 vote.

 

ASBSD supports the bill.

 

“It will help school boards tremendously,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany testified during the bill’s Senate Local Government committee hearing.

 

The bill removes the requirement during a teleconference that a roll call vote must be taken and replaces it with the option for a voice vote. In addition, the bill adds a requirement that should a voice vote not be unanimous a roll call vote be taken.

 

HB 1127 awaits signature from Gov. Kristi Noem.
