Revenue projections for the next fiscal year were adopted recently.

 

Legislative Appropriators adopted revenue projections at $2.067 billion for Fiscal Year 2023, which is more than $92 million higher than what was proposed by Gov. Kristi Noem in December, on a 14-3 vote.

 

With the revenue projections exceeding what was projected in December when Gov. Noem proposed a 6 percent increase in state aid for next year it should signal the increase remains in play for schools through Senate Bill 59, which awaits a hearing by the Joint Appropriations committee.

 

“Adopted revenue being higher than even what was utilized in December to support the proposed 6 percent increase for schools is an excellent sign,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said.

 

“However, school leaders can’t sit back and just expect the increase will be passed. We need to continue to let our legislators know why the 6 percent increase is needed.”
