Rep. Jim Bolin was unsuccessful in his attempt to get House Bill 1187 on the House’s debate calendar on Tuesday just one day after successfully smoking the bill out of the House Education committee.
HB 1187 provides for the exemption of certain students from the requirement to take certain academic assessment tests. ASBSD opposed the bill.
Thirty-six votes were needed to place HB 1187 on the debate calendar, but Rep. Bolin’s request was killed on a 27-42 vote. Monday’s smoke out vote received the minimum number of supporters (24).
House Education committee members voted 8-7 to defeat the bill on the Monday, as well.
Rep. Jacqueline Sly noted the bill the received a fair committee hearing where all parties were heard and each legislator on the committee had their chance to speak.
