A veteran member of the Howard School Board is set to join the ASBSD Board of Directors.
Rick Olson, President of the Howard School Board, was recently appointed by ASBSD President Eric Stroeder to serve as the ASBSD Board of Director’s representative for the Southeast Region’s 266-699 enrollment category.
A 15-year member of his local board, Olson has served 12-years as the district’s school board president and on several district committees, including negotiation, technology and strategic planning. He has also served on the Miner County Community Revitalizations’ Education Committee.
Olson has also been active at the state level with ASBSD, serving as Howard’s Legislative Action Network representative, attending ASBSD President’s Retreat and many regional meetings and taking part in GAVEL training with his local board.
Olson noted his desire to join the ASBSD Board of Directors and help in the continued development of the Association and the board members it serves.
“There are many challenges that face education in the years to come and I believe that ASBSD is on the right track to provide schools and their boards the tools that it takes to succeed,” Olson said.
ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said the board is gaining a great deal of board and leadership experience with the addition of Olson.
“Rick brings a vast amount of school board experience, as well as the perspective of a veteran school board president, to the ASBSD Board,” Pogany said. “We’re happy to have him on the team.”
Olson will join the board for their upcoming meeting ahead of Delegate Assembly. The Board of Director’s position representing the Southeast Region’s 266-699 enrollment category will be up for election in 2016. For information about the election, contact Wade at wpogany@asbsd.org.
