ASBSD Board meets remotely

Like many school boards across the state, the ASBSD Board of Directors met remotely in April.

April’s meeting marked the final one for two ASBSD Board of Directors – Yankton’s Kathy Greeneway and Rapid City’s Mike Roesler.

“Kathy and Mike have been such an inspiration,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said. “They’re just really outstanding people.”

Greeneway was elected twice to represent ASBSD’s Southeast Region member districts in the 1,400-9,999 enrollment category, beginning in 2013. She has sat on her local board for more than a decade.

“It’s been an incredible learning experience for me. It means a lot to me to be a part of (the board),” Greeneway shared with her fellow members. “I appreciate everything. Thanks for letting me grow.”

Roesler has sat on the ASBSD Board since 2018, during which time he represented ASBSD’s Western Region in the 10,000 and over enrollment category. He is currently the President of his local board.

“Being a part of the ASBSD Board helped me personally and professionally as a board member,” Roesler told the Directors. “You folks provide an example. You folks inspired me.”

In addition, the board:

  • Adopted a $2 million budget for Fiscal Year 2021 with membership rates remaining the same;
  • Heard an advocacy report from Pogany, in which he noted of the 26 bills ASBSD opposed, all were defeated;
  • Received a Protective Trust update;
  • Discussed the 2020 ASBSD Awards, which the Association is taking applications for.
