ASBSD Board Members met last month to welcome new members, approve updates to the Executive Committee, approve resolutions and standing positions and more.

 

Brandon Valley School Board Member Ellie Saxer and Rapid City School Board President Curtis Pochardt were elected to the 18-member ASBSD Board of Directors.

 

Saxer is representing the Southeast Region, 1,400-9,999 enrollment category and has served on her local board for three years during which time she has led and served on a multitude of district committees and has also represented her board at ASBSD’s Delegate Assembly and at Legislative Day.

 

 

“We’re thrilled to have Ellie join the ASBSD Board,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said. “We look forward to working with her and benefitting from her perspective on public education.”

 

Pochardt is representing the Western Region’s 10,000 and above enrollment category. He began his service on the Rapid City School Board in 2018 and is in his first term as President having served as Vice President in the previous year. He served as a substitute teacher for several years prior to joining the board.

 

 

“Curt displays a clear commitment to the Rapid City School District and public education, as a whole,” Pogany said. “We’re very appreciative of his willingness to serve on the ASBSD Board and look forward to collaborating with him.”

 

In addition to the new members, the ASBSD Board welcomed back Duane Alm of Aberdeen, Pam Haukaas of Colome Consolidated and Anita Peterson of Haakon following their reelections. Alm, Haukaas and Peterson are all former ASBSD Presidents and have served more than 40 years on the ASBSD Board combined.

 

           

 

“Anita, Pam and Duane bring so much experience and expertise to our Board,” Pogany said. “We’re grateful for their continued leadership at the state and local level and look forward to the next four years with them.”

Woonsocket School Board Vice President Lisa Snedeker has become the First Vice President of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota.

 

Snedeker currently serves as the representative of the Southeast Region’s 265 and Under enrollment category on the ASBSD Board of Directors, a position she has held since 2018. She was elected as Second Vice President of the ASBSD Board of Directors in 2019 and is set to become President in 2021.

 

 

The 2020-21 school year marks Snedeker’s sixth as a member of the Woonsocket school board, on which she has served as board chair for one year and vice chair for four years and has been a member of the Community Development Committee. She is a Branch Manager and Training Coordinator for Dakotaland Federal Credit Union.

 

“Lisa’s enthusiasm for public education and knowledge of school board work has made her a great leadership fit on the ASBSD Board of Directors,” ASBSD Executive Director Wade Pogany said. “She continues to thrive in her role and we’re thankful for her willingness to serve.”
